Car Rear-Ends Garbage; Truck One Dead

ATHENS-The Athens Police Department report a two-vehicle accident that has occured on Friday, October 13 has taken the life of one person.  The name of the victim has not been released:

“On Friday, October 13, 2023, at 9:00 am, Athens Police Department Officers responded to the 22000 block of US 72 East, West bound lanes. 

A traffic crash with entrapment had been reported moments earlier.  Investigation revealed that a garbage truck was stopped while making a residential can collection. 

The truck was struck from behind by a West bound SUV.  The SUV driver did not survive.
