Calvin Roy Wesolowski passed away March 10th, 2025, being the hero, we all know and love. Calvin along with two other caring first responders, Dustin Pope and Jakob Kindt, lost their lives tragically doing what they all loved.
Calvin was born in Mt. Vernon, IL, July 27th, 1962, to Richard “Dick” Wesolowski and Idella “Cookie” Lipscomb. Calvin grew up in La Porte, IN with his two brothers, Allen and Thomas, where he graduated from La Porte High School in 1980. He was involved in many activities to include swimming, baseball, hunting, and being a mechanic for fun. Calvin went off to join the United States Army in 1980 and served as a Crew Chief Aircraft Mechanic for 8 years before being accepted into the Warrant Officer Candidate Program at Fort Rucker, AL in 1988. Calvin graduated in the top of his class in 1989 where he earned his first set of wings. He then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1996. Calvin retired from the United States Army in 2001 as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) after 21 years of service. During his time, he mastered several different aircraft to include UH-1 (Huey), CH-47 (Chinook), and OH-58 as well as being a part of the Army’s Air Ambulance detachment “Flatiron.” He continued his aviation career as an Instructor Pilot for 14 years before returning to the EMS arena. In 2017, Cal took a position at Airbus Helicopters as a Senior Production Test Pilot in Columbus, MS. After 8 years, Calvin returned to the EMS arena once again where he missed camaraderie and call for service for the community.
Calvin married the love of his life, Krista Grecula, March 2, 1984, in Savannah, GA. They had just celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. Calvin was blessed with one child, Courtney, who was his mini-me.
Calvin enjoyed many things in his life but being surrounded by his family, friends, and the outdoors were on the top of his list. You could find him either out in a tree stand, wake surfing, or as he would say “piddling in the yard”.
Calvin will always be remembered for his witty comments, straight forward personality, loving heart, tight hugs, and smiling face. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father (father-in-law), son (son-in-law), brother (brother-in-law), friend, and colleague. You have earned your final set of wings. We will miss you every day till we meet again, make sure to have a “Cal-Tini” waiting for us.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Krista Grecula-Wesolowski; daughter, Courtney Noyes (Devin); Mother, Idella Lipscomb; Brothers, Allen Wesolowski (Carol) and Thomas Wesolowski (Marissa); Mother-In-Law, Janet Grecula; Sister-In-Law, Kandy McCashland; Neice/Nephews, Erin Wesolowski, Ryan Wesolowski and Kurt Galuszka (Veronica).
