cooking wildgameGUNTERSVILLE-Do you have what it takes to battle with some of the best Backyard Chefs from the Guntersville area? It’s time to get fired up and get ready to square off on Saturday, May 10 at 5:30 p.m. as the Alabama Wildlife Federation hosts its annual Alabama Wildlife Federation / Alabama Army National Guard Wild Game Cook-Off at Civitan Park in Guntersville, Alabama.

Cook teams are needed, so grab your apron, shine up your grill and get ready to battle! Entry for the cook teams is free, but teams must pre-register prior to the day of the event at www.alabamawildlife.org. Categories include wild game, fish and fowl. Prizes will be awarded to first through third place in each division, as well as Best Overall and Best Presentation. Find your favorite dish and vote it for the People’s Choice Award sponsored by the Alabama Army National Guard. The overall winner will be invited to the state finals held at Lanark in Millbrook on August 9, 2014 to compete for the title of AWF 2014 Wild Game Cook-Off State Champion.

The event will be the perfect opportunity for sportsmen and women and outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy some good ol’ fashion fun deer meatand fellowship, and for backyard chefs to show off their culinary skills.

If you prefer to eat rather than compete, come sample some of the area’s best wild game dishes. Ample servings of great food are always featured, including entrees such as venison, duck, dove, pheasant and much more!

In addition to all the outstanding food, a major highlight of the cook-off will be a silent auction and live music. Tickets are available for $40 per person/per couple at the door.  Proceeds benefit Alabama Wildlife Federation’s programs and projects. The ticket price includes one Alabama Wildlife Federation membership, a subscription to the Alabama Wildlife magazine, and all of the food you can eat!  For ticket information contact Lief Thornton at(256) 572-1805, Mark Thornton at (256) 505-8482 or the Alabama Wildlife Federation at 1-800-822-WILD.
