Surrounded by the love of his family, Bruce entered Heaven, his eternal home, after a long illness with cancer. He was born in Nicholasville, Kentucky and raised by his parents, Grace and Ernest Newman, in Arlington, Virginia. He played football for Washington and Lee Generals high school and graduated in 1954.

In 1959, he earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Virginia and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. There, at the school of nursing, he met Carolyn Mae Bowen, his wife of 50 years. He joined the ROTC and was commissioned as a US Air Force lieutenant in 1959 and served until 1962.

Bruce and Carolyn moved to Huntsville, Alabama to raise their family in 1963. There he joined Boeing and their team of engineers, to assist in the successful launching and landing of the Saturn V and its astronauts safely on the moon. He also worked on the Star Wars missile defense program. He worked 18 years for Boeing (2 in Seattle, Washington and 16 in Huntsville, Alabama). He also worked 18 years with SRS Technologies in Huntsville, Alabama. He became a master gardener after retirement.

His wife, Carolyn, preceded him in death in 2007. He leaves behind daughters, Karen Newman, Julie Newman Loveless (Jimmy Dean Loveless), Laura Newman Easterling, all of Huntsville, AL and Tracy Newman Wilson (Jesse Wallace Wilson) of Fairhope, AL; grandchildren, Austin Dallas Moore of Huntsville, AL, Caroline Leigh Easterling, Eleanor Gwen Easterling all of Huntsville, AL, and Hayes Emmett Wilson, Brooks Thomas Wilson, Kathleen Elizabeth Wilson all of Fairhope, AL; great-grandson, Emmett Lee Moore of Huntsville, AL; brother, Erwin Newman of Arlington, VA.

Private services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery.
