TUSCUMBIA – Donna Akins is a happy person today. When the Quad-Cities Daily photographer arrived at her office at ARC of The Shoals’ Hope Haven facility, Donna was discussing with some of the Staff how much work was getting done by volunteers. She was pretty busy with the details of the once a year project. “Hey, Sheri, why don’t you not take my picture. Why don’t you take pictures of the guys out there putting in the new sidewalk,” she said as she pointed up the drive toward the group home next door. Donna is like that. She is all about the people she and her dedicated staff serve.
Today, was special for Donna and the Staff. This is the 15th year, that volunteers from Brown’s Ferry come to the ARC to do the sorts of things they do best… namely, build things, clean things, move things that the ARC would have to pay for otherwise. It works out well for everybody. The Arc of The Shoals is improved and the folks from Brown’s Ferry have their hearts warmed by being able to help out this most worthy of causes.
