Brooks Allen Jackson Sr., age 79, of Sheffield, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015.
His family will receive friends Friday, 11:30 – 1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Bedsole and Rev. Charles Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Brooks was born in Pickwick, TN on January 31, 1936 to Brooks H and “Bill” Hedden Jackson. They moved to Sheffield when Brooks was one year old and lived in Village II on the TVA Reservation until TVA closed the village and they moved into town. Brooks was a 1954 graduate of Sheffield High School and in 1959 graduated from Florence State Teachers College.
He was a long time member of Sheffield First United Methodist Church where he and his wife, Zelda, served as youth counselors in the 70’s and 80’s. Brooks was also the Recording Secretary of the Finance Committee for many years and served as Treasurer of his Sunday school class for more than 20 years. He hired on with Ford Motor Company in 1958 and worked in the Personnel Department until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David R. “Rusty” Jackson and brother-in-law, Earl Newman.
He dearly loved and was much loved by his wife, Zelda Newman Jackson; son, Brooks “Allen” Jackson Jr.; daughter Diana Hudson and her husband Dennis; grandson, Adam Hudson; and granddaughter, Stephanie Brooke Hudson. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Dale Newman and Mark Newman and wife Lisa, and sisters-in-law Patricia Jackson and Becky Newman.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Howard Jaggers’ Sunday School Class.
