Brigitte Gisela Heusinger, 90, passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospital early Friday, March 26. Brigitte was born in Koeslin, Germany on March 2, 1926. She married Bruno K. Heusinger in 1948 and then moved to Ft. Bliss, TX with the Wernher von Braun “Rocket Team” and their families, later relocating to Huntsville, AL. Brigitte had been a resident of Huntsville since 1950. She spent many years working for First Photo Company, taking pictures of newborn babies at Huntsville Hospital.
She loved music and sang in a church choir, and performed with several women in a band called the “German Alpine Singers”, often performing at festivals, churches, malls, and schools. She later performed in a few smaller classical string and wind instrument groups that played for their enjoyment and at a few events from time to time. She loved her three children and their families and spent her entire life with them in Huntsville.
Brigitte was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno K. Heusinger, her parents, Walter and Gertrud Berndt, and a brother, Heinz Berndt. She is survived by all three of her children, Bert Heusinger (Renee), Vickie Rainey (John), and Ralph Heusinger (Yvonne); grandchildren – Heather Carlton (David), Amanda Heusinger, Stephanie Beaver (Matt), Mary Elizabeth Watson (Chris), Yulanda Hensel (Robb), and Amanda Humphries; great-grandchildren – Evan Heusinger, Marley Black and Lincoln Hensel. She is also survived by a brother, Hans-Georg Berndt, who recently visited from Germany and spent quality time with his sister.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating.
Memorials may be made to Huntsville Youth Orchestra, Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Association or to a favorite charity.
