briceDr. Brice Herald Brackin, age 70, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Prince Herald and Mattie Irene Brackin.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lou Brackin, of Alabaster, Alabama; two children, Freddie Brackin (Jamie), of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Mirel Gill (Mark), of Brandon, Mississippi; two brothers, Paul Brackin (Lois), of Florence, Alabama, and Mickey Brackin (Cindy), of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; nieces and nephews, Terri McDaniel (Michael), of Greenwood, Mississippi, John Brackin, of Hoover, Alabama, Arleigh Bryant (McClane), of Leoma, Tennessee, and Daniel Brackin (Gwen), of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; great-nieces and great-nephews, Patrick McDaniel, of Greenwood, Mississippi, Brady McDaniel, of Greenwood, Mississippi, Avery McDaniel, of Greenwood, Mississippi, Sofia Brackin, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Liam Brackin, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and Tifton Bryant, of Leoma, Tennessee.
Brice was a native of Town Creek, Alabama in Lawrence County. He lived in Alabaster, Alabama in Shelby County for 26 years and was a member of First Baptist Church, of Pelham, Alabama. He graduated from Hazlewood High School in Town Creek in 1963. He attended Auburn University and was the outstanding engineering graduate in March of 1969. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama Medical School in 1973. He finished his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Alabama Medical Center in 1977. He was in private practice as an orthopedic surgeon and had practiced in both Birmingham and Alabaster from 1977 until he retired in 2008. He also received his JD degree from Birmingham School of Law in 1979 and became a member of the Alabama Bar Association in 1980. He was a member of the Alabama Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Shelby County Bar Association, Alabama Bar Association, and American Bar Association.
Anyone who knew Brice knew how much he loved the people of Town Creek and Lawrence County as well as the people of Alabaster and Shelby County.
Brice was honored with awards through the years, but the one he always told everyone that he was the most proud of was being the State Cotton Picking Champion in 1989.
Arrangements are being handled by Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Pelham on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Pelham. Graveside services will be conducted at Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek, Alabama at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2016. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice or one of the following: St. Judes Children’s Hospital, The Gideons, or First Baptist Church, Pelham. Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo) directing.
