Brenda Wheeler McNitt peacefully passed away at her home in Meridianville, Alabama, with her cats and family by her side, on September 25, 2025. She was born Brenda Gail Wheeler in Tupelo, Mississippi, the only child of Coy and Jewel Wheeler, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, William L. McNitt; granddaughter, Sarah McCallum; sister-in-law, Rena McNitt Voyles; niece, Nicole Voyles; and in-laws, Charles and Lorraine McNitt.

Brenda is survived by her husband and the love of her life for 57 years, Ora Dane McNitt; daughter, Kathleen (Mike) Havron; grandchildren, Jennifer McCallum and Robert (Brittney) McCallum III; and great-granddaughter, Aubrey. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Barry (Sheila) McNitt; nephew, Blake (Melanie) McNitt; nieces, Amanda (Jared) Bell and Natalie (Jared) Anderson; as well as several cousins in Mississippi, and an uncle and cousins in Henderson, Nevada.

A proud graduate of Mississippi State University, Brenda earned her bachelor’s degree in education and went on to teach in the Huntsville City School System for 30 years. She touched the lives of hundreds of children through her dedication and care. She was also known for her love of cats, her passion for books, and her kind, gentle spirit.

A celebration of life will be held on October 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church, 26575 US-72, Athens, Alabama.
