Brenda Lou Medlock Hood, 85, of Madison, Alabama, passed away on June 28, 2025. She was born on March 22, 1940, to Hoyt and Kate Medlock in Albertville, Alabama. She was valedictorian of her senior class at Albertville High School and worked at a law firm until marrying her high school sweetheart, Jack B. Hood, on March 8, 1959.
She was a full-time mother and homemaker until moving to Orlando, Florida in 1975, when she began volunteering in the school library at Lockhart Elementary School. Eventually, she was hired to work in the library and in the main school office, which offered the opportunity to combine her love of children with her love of books. She moved back to Alabama in 1987, where she served as a nanny for the same family for 23 years. With her own grandchildren living so far away, she became more than a nanny to the children she cared for, loving them like family and becoming an integral part of their lives.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin Cusimano (Angelo) of Oviedo, FL; son, Raven Hood of Madison, AL; grandsons, Anthony (Sarah) Cusimano and Daniel Cusimano, all of Oviedo, FL; her sister, Kay Scales of Hemet, CA; and her beloved nieces and nephews. Brenda was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Jack Hood; her brothers, Elbert Medlock of Albertville, AL and Kenneth Lowery of Jacksonville, AR; and her parents, Hoyt and Kate Medlock of Albertville, AL.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.
