Bonnie Hancock Phillips Mellert, age 85, passed away on January 23, 2026. She was born on December 12, 1940, and was a charter member of Mud Creek Baptist Church.
Bonnie was employed by Scottsboro Auto Parts for 45 years, serving first as a bookkeeper and later as a partner. She retired at the end of 2004. As one of the first women to sell auto parts, she earned a reputation for excellence and dependability. Many customers would willingly wait to be helped by her.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Phillips; stepchildren, Tuesday Bigelow (Brett), Kristie Freirich (John), Krystal Benton, and Kimberly Close; grandchildren, James Jeffery (Dawn), Jennifer Vincent (Marcus), Janna Butler (Nick), Amanda Phillips, Amber Phillips, and Jonathan Phillips; Wilson Edwards and Kirstie Kelly; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Clara Goff.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Phillips Jeffery; her parents, Wheeler and Launa Hancock; both of her husbands, John Ben Phillips and Bob Mellert; siblings, Herschel, Herbert, Jack, and L. C. Hancock, Wilda Segneri, and Ronda Jean Murner; and great-great granddaughter Ella Faith McClure.
Bonnie loved her cats, working in her flower beds, doing yard work, and was a secret master of perms.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Mud Creek Baptist Church with Bro. James Jeffery Jr. and Bro. Brandon Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 26, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church. Flowers may be delivered directly to Mud Creek Baptist Church 123 County Road 50 Hollywood, AL 35752.
