Bonnie Fletcher, age 95, long-time resident of Estill Springs, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Feb 2, 2022 at The Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, AL.She was born Tues, May 11th, 1926 in Estill Springs, TN to William Harold Gaines, US mail carrier, and Ona Mai Ivey Gaines, home maker. After she graduated from Central High School in Winchester, TN, in 1945, she became a rural letter carrier, like her father. She retired from the United States Postal Service in Nov 1981, after 34 faithful and devoted years, serving Route 2 Estill Springs. During that time, in 1974, Ms. Fletcher became the first female president of the Tennessee Rural Letter Carrier’s Association. Bonnie is preceded in death by her son, Terry Gaines King, her parents, and sisters Margaret Virginia Downing and Jo Gaines Syler. She is survived by her daughter, LaDonna Ann King (Andy) Butts of Concord, NC, and son Keith William (Rose) Fletcher, of Huntsville, AL; 6 grandchildren, Kimberly Butts (Curtis) Teague, Scott (Kamber) Butts, Julie Butts (Chet) Dobbins; Laura Fletcher (Solomon) Preko; Elizabeth Fletcher (Jeffrey) Ent and William James Fletcher; and 9 great grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating Ms. Fletcher’s life will be held at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, Tullahoma, TN at 1:00pm on Thurs February 17, 2022. A family reception of visitors will occur following the memorial service in the Saint Barnabas Parish Hall (adjacent to the church).
