LAUDERDALE COUNTY-On 2/21/2026 the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 500 block of County Road 10 after being contacted by a property owner regarding the discovery of possible human remains in a wooded area on the property.
Once deputies arrived, they confirmed that the remains were human. Sheriff’s Office investigators responded and begin processing the scene and have since completed the excavation and collection of the remains. The Alabama Fire Marshall’s Office assisted in the effort.
An autopsy has been ordered and the Lauderdale County Coroner will transport the remains to the Alabama Department of Forensic Scienes.
As the investigation continues, the Sheriff’s Office will work with Forensic Sciences to identify the remains and compare evidence to any active missing person cases.
