Bobby Van Dyke Haston, age 81, passed away on July 29, 2026, at NHC of Sparta from an extended illness. Bobby was born on May 1st, 1945, to the late Chester and Roberta Grissom Haston. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and agriculture. He was also well traveled, having visited 49 states and traveled throughout Europe. Above all, Bobby cherished spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonita Haston; his grandson, Allen Tyler; his maternal grandparents; Bob and Annie Johnson Grissom; his paternal grandparents, Van and Iona Cummings Haston, his brother, Chester Haston; his aunt, Sammie Grissom; and his stepson, John Thomas Rogers.
He is survived by his son, Robert Van; his life partner, June Rogers; his sisters, June (Tom) McCoy, Roxanne (Bruce) Crain, and Jamie (Marion) Pope; his stepdaughter, Candace (Randy) Brewer; and his grandchildren, Caitlan (Kaz O’Neal) Brewer, John Curtis Brewer, and Anya Brewer. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends who will cherish his memory.
A funeral service for Mr. Bobby Van Dyke Haston will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the Layne Funeral Home Chapel, with Candace Brewer officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. Per Bobby’s wishes he will be cremated after the service.
