Bobby Gene Downey, age 77, of Florence, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Gregg officiating. Mr. Downey was a member of the Florence Blvd. Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from K-Mart. He was a loving husband and father and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Helen Downey. He is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Gray Downey; son, Steve Downey (Patricia); daughter, Cindy Denton (Ricky); step-daughters, Gina Gordon (Frank), and Tammie Smith (Curt); and step-son, Michael Gray (Kiristie); 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to express appreciation to Kristi Niedergeses, and Tammy and Rose of Southern Care Hospice for the loving care they have provided. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Neonatal Unit of Huntsville Hospital.
