Bobby Delane McKissack was born in Booneville, Mississippi, on September 9, 1961, to Bobby and Marthann McKissack. He was the third of five children and was raised alongside them in Okolona and Booneville, Mississippi.
Bobby attended both Booneville and Okolona school systems. As a young man, he participated in Boy Scouts, where he learned many skills and valuable life lessons. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and instilled his love for the outdoors in his children and grandchildren.
In his teenage years, he worked alongside his uncle, Luther McKissack, specializing in welding and later became a skilled welder. After high school, he went to work with CECO Building Systems in construction. While working, Bobby met the love of his life, Judy Kidd McKissack. They were married on June 29, 1984, and would go on to spend 42 blessed years together. Later, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Atlanta, Georgia Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a covenant that shaped their lives and their love for family and faith.
Bobby continued his work career in construction and spent 18 years at Tecumseh, followed by over-the-road trucking for Warner. He also owned and operated Troy Grocery, which gave him an outlet to meet many new people in the community and make lifelong, cherished friendships.
After he sold the store, he continued to work in the construction industry where he had learned to build almost anything. He culminated his work career with Maloney Glass and Door before retiring in 2021.
Bobby was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served within his church in all capacities to help and serve others in their time of need. He was a quiet, humble man, but his strength, integrity, kindness, and love for his family took precedence above all. He and Judy raised four children—Chris, Candie, Christina, and Mitch—and together they created a home filled with love, commitment, and dedication.
Throughout his life, Bobby celebrated many accomplishments, but the one he was most proud of was his family. The home he and Judy built in Pontotoc County was constantly filled with the people he loved the most. He was a proud father of four children and grandfather of ten grandchildren, who love and adore him dearly. His grandchildren referred to him as “Papaw,” which he considered his greatest honor in life. Through Bobby’s commitment and loving devotion to his family, they never had to question his love or how far he would go for them.
Bobby’s life was one of hard work, dedication, service, and, most importantly, love—to God, his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. They will remember him with gratitude as a humble man with a servant’s heart.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Chris of Tupelo, Candie of Shannon, Christina (Mickey) of Pontotoc, and Mitch (Kelsey) of Pontotoc; his ten grandchildren, Tyler, Jalynn (Luke), LeAnna, Mick, Paislee, Winston, Nova, Capri, Dakota, and Grace; his brother, Glen McKissack of Okolona, Mississippi; a stepsister, Angie Stockman (Phillip) of Hamilton, Mississippi; and a stepbrother, Mike Rooks (Charlotte) of Amory, Mississippi, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Marthann McKissack; his two brothers, Dewayne McKissack (3 years old) and Mitch McKissack (20 years old); his sister, Lisa McKissack (6 weeks old); and his son-in-law, DJ Cates.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11AM Friday, July 31, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Tupelo, MS with Bishop Gabe Rulewicz officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-8PM at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home and again Friday morning from 10AM until service time at the church. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Ward, Mick Ward, Winston Ward, Matt Westcott, Mark Westcott, John Shelburne, David Welborn, and Joey Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don (Red) Hamilton, Wayne Littlejohn, Bobby Jolly, Jimmy Parker, William Kidd, Glen McKissack, Jackie Rowe, and Hunter Moore.
