It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby Dean Harper, a resident of Decatur, Alabama, and beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, on January 9, 2025, after an extended illness.

Bob was born on November 19, 1937, to parents Clifton and Eva (Hornsby) Harper in Tallassee, Alabama. After graduating from Tallassee High School in 1956, Bob went on to achieve two of his life goals early; one was to become an Alabama State Trooper, and the other was to become a pilot. He later worked for the Alabama Department of Revenue as a revenue examiner and rose to the position of District Supervisor. He attended Alexander City Junior College majoring in business, and he was a member of the Alabama Air National Guard, from which he retired after 22 years of service. Bob was a history buff and loved engaging in discussions and sharing his research with his brother Roger. He also never saw a western movie that he didn’t like.

Bob is survived by his wife of 21 years, Julia; sister-in-law Ann S. Harper, nephews Michael S. Harper (Ann), Randy Harper (Tammy), niece Dianne Harper, great nieces Sumer Bryant (Freddie), Shanna Gates (Dawn), and Aliceann Harper, several great-great nieces and nephews, and “extended family” into which he married, Tim and Jeanne Pope of Somerville, Alabama, Randy and Dana Moffitt of Huntingdon, Tennessee, Gay Gooch of Huntingdon, Tennessee, Jeff and Cathy Strickland of Rayville, Louisiana, and Bryan and Margaret McLachlan of Anniston, Alabama.

He was preceded in joining the Lord by parents Clifton and Eva Harper; brothers Ethridge and Roger Harper, sister-in-law Mary Anne Harper, and niece Deirtra Harper Henderson.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Macedonia Christian Church, 2685 Macedonia Road, Tallassee, Alabama 36078 in memory of Bobby Dean Harper.
