Bobby Brown GrimmittBobby Brown Grimmitt, 83, of the Hampshire Community passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with his brother-in-law, Brother Jimmy Adcox officiating. Burial will follow in Kittrell Cemetery in Hampshire. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Bobby was the son of the late Brown Cathey and Margaret Akin Grimmitt. He was raised on the family farm which he moved back to upon retirement. He was a 1953 graduate of Hampshire High School.

Bypassing a career of baseball, he became an electrician. This took him to Nashville, then Franklin to Rock Hill, South Carolina, where he retired as Vice President at Smith Enterprises. Bobby’s favorite hobby was golf.

He was married to Alma Anderson Grimmitt and they had two children. Bobby married Patricia Gilliam Grimmitt October 4, 1998 and together joined their families, Sherrie Grimmitt (David) Long of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Elizabeth Grimmitt (Michael) Wenghofer of York, South Carolina; Sammy (Kimberly) Gilliam, Patricia Jane “P.J.” Gilliam both of Hampshire; special nephew, Harry L. “Lee” (Cindy) Grimmitt of Hampshire.

He is also survived by his brothers, Everette Akin (Dorothy) Grimmitt of Columbia; Dan W. (Joyce) Grimmitt of Matthews, North Carolina; and sister, Ann (Jimmy) Adcox of Jonesboro, Arkansas; grandchildren, Samantha (Hoby) Groves of Fort Mill, South Carolina; Sierra Wenghofer of York, South Carolina; Cameron Long, Spencer Long both of Clemson, South Carolina; Sabrina Gilliam, Cortney Gilliam, and Sydney Gilliam of Hampshire; nephews, Seth Grimmitt, Drew Grimmitt both of Hampshire; and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Alma Anderson Grimmitt, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harry L. Grimmitt of Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Pallbearers will be Cameron Long, Spencer Long, Hoby Groves, Seth Grimmitt, Drew Grimmitt, Jay Adcox, Jon Adcox, Josh Irvin, William Fly, and Chase Foshee. Honorary pallbearers include Betty and Cobin Ray Holden, Sue and Don Garner, Letha Lou and Cecil Whiteside, W. M. Jaggers, Jonathan Jones, Ben Diles, and Elders, Deacons, and church family at Catheys Creek Church of Christ.
