Billy Trapp Lindsey – Obituary

billy-lindsey-1477484810Dr. Billy Trapp Lindsey, professor emeritus of sociology and criminal justice at U.N.A., 78, died October 25, 2016. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Barrett Long and Brett Pitman officiating.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Hester Lindsey and Bev Norman Lindsey; siblings, Adle Pinkston, Elsie Pounders, Earl Lindsey, Auston Lindsey, and Cecil Lindsey; and nephew Durrell Rutland.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Maedrue Daniel Lindsey; son, Brian Lindsey (Dana) of Tuscumbia; daughter Jill Lindsey Conner (Dennis) of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren Caroline Lindsey, Will Conner, Meredith Lindsey, Lindsey Jo Conner, and Drew Conner; brothers, Thurmon Lindsey and Norris Lindsey.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Archer, Shane Barnes, Mitchell Hays, Jeffrey Lindsey, Jerry Murdock, and Scott Trimble.

Dr. Lindsey taught one year as a graduate assistant in the Department of Sociology at the University of Mississippi and then taught for 29 years at the University of North Alabama where he was a full professor and chair of the department.

He loved gospel music and spent his weekends traveling and singing. During his career, he recorded 14 albums. Dr. Lindsey had a keen interest in reading books on prophecy and taught prophecy classes at Highland Park Baptist Church for over ten years.

Memorials may be made to Muscle Shoals Education Foundation, 3200 South Wilson Dam Road, Muscle Shoals, Alabama 35661. Morrison Funeral Home will be directing.
