Billy Ray McClure was born in Huntsville, Alabama, April 20, 1954, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he had lived for almost twenty three years. His death was caused by injuries sustained in a fall on November 1, 2014.
Billy graduated from Hazel Green High School in Meridianville, Alabama and from Jacksonville State University in Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. He first worked as a Preparator and Exhibits Designer for the Huntsville Museum of Art and then at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He then had a career of almost 20 years as Preparator and Exhibits Designer at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum.He was an avid golfer, photographer and cook. His gifts were his friendship, creativity and humor. Billy was the son of Fred Lawson McClure and Margie Calloway McClure Bush of Huntsville, both deceased.
Mr. McClure is survived by his sister Joan McClure, his brother-in-law Michael Schler, both of New York City, his uncle Calvin McClure of Huntsville, and his cousins Garry and Ann McClure, Judith Newman, Danny and Patricia Byrd, Mike and Carol Smith, Tommy and Barbara Compton, and Joe Calloway, all of the Huntsville/Decatur area, and Susan Hildebrand and Shirley Latham of Austin, Texas.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of his life will be held in Gurley, Alabama at the Gurley Methodist Church Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM, immediately followed by a Reception in the Fellowship Hall at 12:15. Tommy Rosenblum will officiate. Spry Funeral Home and the family will bury his cremated remains in the Gurley City Cemetery next to his Mother later following the Reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum or to a Museum of your choice.
