Billy Ray Massey, 72, of Double Springs, entered into rest on March 28, 2017.
Mr. Massey was born on August 18, 1944 in Double Springs. Billy Ray attended Thatch school, he was a 30 year member of Poplar Springs Freewill Baptist Church, retired from coal mining after 18 years and loved logging with Justin. He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, working in his garden and loving his family. Billy was married to Carolyn, who lovingly called him “Hun”, “My Little Man” and “Bill- Ray” for 52 years and 1 day.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 6pm-9pm at First Baptist Church Double Springs, where services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2pm. Vance Hutton and Gene Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs cemetery.
Billy is survived by his sons, Ricky Massey, Justin Rowe and his wife Adrienne; daughter Vickey Rowe; sisters, Vonda Roberts and her husband Steve, Doris Garrett, Francis Vinson and her husband Don and Vera Mae Key. He was “Paw Paw” to 10 grandchildren, Ashley Gable, her husband Bobby, Jarrod Massey, his wife Amanda, Chelsey Massey, Brody Massey, Dawson Martin, his wife Amber, Hope Martin, Zachary Rowe, Kaiden Rowe, Raylon Rowe; 3 great grandchildren, Emily Gable, Colton Gable, Brentlee Massey; neices, Dana Cain, Tamara Lane, Alyssa Hood; nephew, Johnny Wayne Lane and a host of other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Eva Massey; brothers, Richard, Roy and James Loyd Massey; sister Gladys Spain and nephew James Clinton Bonner Jr.
