Billy Randall Legg, aged 72, of Athens, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at home surrounded by family and close friends. Mr. Legg was born on May 18th, 1953, in Athens, to parents Billy Joel Legg and Ruth Ellen Jackson Legg.
Mr. Legg leaves behind a devoted family, including his wife, Debbie Legg, and his children: son Tyler Legg, and daughter Ashley Legg Bentley, along with her husband Jonathan. He is also survived by his brother, Greg Legg, and his wife Robin, sister Cindy Legg, and grandson David Dorsett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Joel and Ruth Ellen Legg, and his brother, David Legg.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the visitation for Mr. Legg on Thursday, December 18th, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm, at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church. The funeral service will commence at 1:00 pm at the church, officiated by Andy John King and Ed Lowery. Following the service, Mr. Legg will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Hargrove, Gordon O’Malley, Rusty Cooper, Hal Barley, Dennis Black, and Mike Adams.
Mr. Legg was a remarkable individual, known for his deep commitment to his faith as a member of Lindsay Lane Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School at First Baptist of Dickson, TN, and Lindsay Lane of Athens. He helped lead Men’s Ministry and he and Debbie led many marriage conferences. He was an avid outdoorsman, passionate about hunting and bow fishing. He was a staff pro for Cajun Bow Fishing and fished many tournaments. A proud alumni of Athens High School, class of 1971, he was also an accomplished athlete during his high school years.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Affinity Hospice for their compassionate care during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Birdie Thornton Center of Athens.
