Mr. Phillips was a native of Wayne County, TN, retired from the Lawrence County Highway Department, and an United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was active in his Church & Community including a Deacon and former Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church in Loretto, and formerly at the First Baptist Church in Iron City. He was a former Lawrence County Commissioner, Board Member & President of the Lawrence County Senior Citizens. He was a Board Member of the Loretto Senior Citizens, founding Board Member of the Loretto Library, Chair of Main Street Iron City, President & Board Member of Iron City Lions Club. He was a Third Degree Master Mason and had been a member of the Masons for 55 years, Chaplain of the Loretto Eastern Star #472, and Chaplain of Loretto Masonic Lodge #655. Survivors include:Wife- Erma Lee Phillips of Loretto, TN; 1 Son- Gary Phillips of Loretto, TN; 2 Daughters- Marcia Parson of Greeneville, TN; Ramona Moore of Lebanon, TN; 3 Brothers- Raymond Phillips of Iron City, TN; Carl Phillips of Lawrenceburg, TN; Don Phillips of Iron City, TN; 3 Sisters- Nadine Kelley of Holly Creek, TN; Alene Gamble of St. Joseph, TN; Elaine Pennington of Iron City, TN; 6 Grandchildren- Andrew Parsons (Laura), Emily Arrowood (Casey), Rachel Moore, Sarah Moore, Samuel Moore, & Isaac Moore. The funeral service will be officiated by Sammy Wallace. Mr. Phillips will lie in state at the Church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors given at the graveside. There will be a Masonic Service held for Mr. Phillips at Loretto Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
