Funeral arrangements for Mr. Billy Joe Martin, 68, of Athens, will be on Monday, February 11, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Patrick and Brent Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Limestone Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Visitation will be tonight at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Mr. Martin died on Friday, February 8, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Martin was born on July 24, 1944, in Limestone County to William and Etha Martin. He was a member of Blackburn Road Baptist Church in Athens. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran. He also owned and operated Martin Tire for 26 years. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby Martin; and sister, Betty Carol Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Peggye Roberts Martin; son, Lance (Cindy) Martin, all of Athens; daughter, Kerry (Brent) Martin Durham, of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Hayden Durham and Elizabeth Durham; step-grandson, Bradley Hamm; step-great-grandsons, Matthew Hamm and James Hamm; brothers, Alfred Martin, of Ardmore AL, Lonnie Martin, Glen Martin, and Ike Martin, all of Athens; sisters, Patricia Ann Sledge, Brenda Brown, and Glenda Campbell, all of Athens; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Martin, Glen Martin, Jeff Martin, Danny Vinson, James Chambers, and Mark Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Lee, Aubry Privett, John Wheeler, Brad Pilk, and Buddy Bates.
