Billy Gene King, 90, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024. Born on October 27, 1933, in the Cotton Mill Village of Huntsville, Alabama, to Benjamin Wilford King and Hatty Beatrice King Moore Walling, he was a proud graduate of Rison High School. He earned his B.S. in management and business administration and pursued graduate studies in law, as well as environmental and urban planning. Serving as an officer in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Bill showcased dedication and valor.

 

His remarkable journey extended to the political arena, representing Alabama in both the State Senate and House of Representatives during the 1970s. Notably, he served as President Jimmy Carter’s campaign manager during the presidential election of 1980. As the President and CEO of King Development and Management Company, Inc., Bill played a pivotal role in constructing and overseeing numerous hotels and apartments across Alabama and the Southeast.

 

Bill is survived by his loving daughters, Pamela King Roy (Richard), Susan King Parks, and his son Chrystopher Martin King (Janessa), along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Wilford King and Hatty Beatrice King Moore Walling, as well as his sister Patricia Joan King Malmay. A private ceremony for immediate family members will honor his memory.
