Billy Gene Kelley, age 86, of Union Grove, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Shepherds Cove Hospice. Billy was born in Guntersville, AL on March 21, 1939. His birth mother was Flora Kelley, but he was raised, loved and provided for by J.D. and Ellie Sorter. He was married to Barbara Kelley who passed away in 2020. He worked at the Tyson Plant in Blountsville as a handler.
Billy was known for his tireless work ethic and his generous spirit. He retired at the age of 80, after a lifetime of providing for those he loved. Billy will be remembered not only for his hard work but also for his boisterous personality and sharp wit which endeared him to everyone he met, ensuring he truly never met a stranger. Billy’s ability to make people laugh and feel valued is a cherished memory for those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Billy is survived by a loving family which includes his sons, David Kelley (Melba) and Larry Kelley; daughters, Doris Breedwell (Bobby) and Lisa Davis; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Kelley; parents, J.D. and Ellie Sorter; mother, Flora Kelley; brother, Ralph Cryar; and son in law, Willis Davis.
Services to honor the life of Billy will be Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. The family will greet friends and guests at a visitation from 10:00 until the funeral service at 11:00am. Brother Donald King will be officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Morgan City. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: David Kelley Jr., Billy Breedwell, Matthew Breedwell, Jacob Kelley, Jarrod Davis and David Kelley Sr. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel entrusted with arrangements.
