Mr. Billy Edwin Collins, age 78, of Vernon, AL, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at his residence.
Mr. Collins was born June 27, 1946, in Columbus, MS, to the late Joseph Edward and Stella Mae (Black) Collins, and was married to the late Ginger (Rasbury) Collins. He was a 1964 graduate of Lamar County High School, then served in the U.S. Army and later got his Masters in teaching. Mr. Collins was a football coach in Maplesville, AL and later worked as an EMT for EmergyStat in Vernon. He later went back to teaching and was an assistant football coach at Sulligent and Vernon, and was also a musician for the Class of 65 band. He enjoyed being with his family and being a grandfather to his grandsons.
Funeral services will be Sunday, February 16, at 3:00 PM, at the Vernon First Baptist Church, with Bro. Brandon Phillips officiating. He will lie in state from 2:00-3:00 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday, 4:00-6:00 PM, at the funeral home.
Survivors include two daughters, Lindsey (Scott) Emerson of Vernon, AL and Katherine (John) Cunningham of Millport, AL; four grandchildren, Branson Emerson, Evan Cunningham, Sam Cunningham, and Anniston Emerson; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
