Funeral Services for Mr. Billy E. Brewer, age 83 of Ashland, will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. David Holcombe and Pastor Rusty Craig officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland City Cemetery.

Mr. Brewer passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at his home. He was born in Randolph County, graduated from Clay County High School, and Joined the U.S. Army out of High School. He served for a total of 4 years, was stationed in El Paso, TX and traveled to Germany to help during the 1960 Cuban Missile Crisis. Once he returned home, He worked as a Mechanic, specifically for Sewing and Textile companies, including Southland, Higgins, and NikkiLou’s to name a few. He also helped with the Industries for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega. Mr. Brewer’s last worked for Wellborn Cabinet’s in the boiler room. He loved camping, Fishing, and once he watched Bear Bryant coach, he became a lifelong Alabama Football fan. Mr. Brewer enjoyed taking his friends fishing, and then treating his friends to a catfish dinner at Fincher’s. Mr. Brewer was a member of First Baptist Church in Ashland.

Mr. Brewer was survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Brewer of Ashland; his daughter, Candi Smith of Franklin, GA; two step-grandchildren: Carl E. Smith Jr of Tuscaloosa, and Brian M. Smith (Elaine) of Ozark; two great-grandchildren: Camryn D. Smith and Brayden N. Smith; his cousin, Linda Williamson, plus other extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Jesse Walker and Flora Key Brewer, and his son-in-law, Carl E. Smith.

Active Pallbearers will be Glenn Cox, Sherrill Hendon, Stephen Young, and Allen Hamlin.

His visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 11:30 A.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
