Billy Charles Mitchell, 74, died Wednesday at Huntsville Hospital from surgery-related complications.
He was born June 20, 1941 to Paul Richard Mitchell and Ruby Garrett Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Barrett Mitchell; one son, Mylan Brett Mitchell (Dr. Geana Watson Mitchell); one daughter, Sonya Mitchell Kilpatrick (Stephen Kilpatrick); five grandchildren, Hadley Elisabeth Kilpatrick, Mitchell Stephen Kilpatrick, Lettie Caroline Kilpatrick, Sarah Brett Mitchell and Mary Charles “Charlee” Mitchell, all of Moulton; and two sisters, Joan Hargett of Trinity and Faye Eades of Columbus, MS.
A celebration of his life will be Saturday, October 24th at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Moulton with Bro. Randy Copeland presiding and eulogies given by J.F. Stephenson Jr. and Mylan Mitchell. Visitation will be held following the service. A private graveside service and burial will be held prior to the service with Bro. Randy Copeland presiding and Parkway Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Freddie Hood, David Hood, Tony Myers, Garod Hargett, Brad Reed, Ronnie White and Bobby Chitwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Mitchell, Roger Dutton, Roger Nix, Freddie Stephenson and Billy Stephenson.
Mr. Mitchell was a devoted husband and father who loved people and business. He lived outside Moulton on Diamond Hollow Farm where he raised cattle and created an iconic jewelry business specializing in diamonds. He will be remembered for his generosity to his local community, family, friends and church. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was an active deacon and served on numerous committees. He was a current member of Gideons International, Alabama Farmers Federation, Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors for CB&S Bank.
He was a former watch repair instructor at Calhoun Community College, member of the Board of Directors for West Lawrence Water Cooperative, Colonial Bank, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
