Bill Chenault – Obituary

Bill Chenault, 86, of Huntsville, Alabama and formerly of Decatur, Alabama passed away on Sunday March 12, 2017 at his home. Bill was born on March 1, 1931 in Danville, Alabama to the late Alfred Wesley Chenault and Ollie Mae Williams Chenault.   Bill was a very kind and hardworking man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters. Bill enjoyed gardening, yard work, fishing, family gatherings, church, and travel. Bill attended Danville and Decatur schools and afterwards entered the United States Air Force in 1951 serving his country for 2 years including marching in President Eisenhower’s Inauguration Parade in 1953. Bill married Sarah Jo Allen Chenault on April 25, 1954 in Iuka, Mississippi and remained happily married for nearly 63 years until his passing. Bill worked in the grocery business and invested in real estate in Decatur, Alabama for several years before he moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1969 where Bill owned and operated several successful Food Town grocery stores in southwest Huntsville. Later on, Bill worked as a car salesman in Huntsville and Decatur until his retirement where he received Top Salesman of the year honors. Bill professed his faith in Christ and was baptized at the Cornerstone Community Church in Huntsville where he and Sarah Jo were both members and attended faithfully for many years.

 

Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother Alfred Wesley Chenault and Ollie Mae Williams Chenault; father and mother in-law, Howard Fredrick Allen and Alma Ruth Billings Allen; brothers Wesley Dwight Chenault and Kenneth Chenault; sisters Lucille Franks and Hazel C. Ward; and infant daughter Marquita Chenault.

 

Bill is survived by his wife Sarah Jo Allen Chenault of Huntsville; 2 children, Bronwyn Ann Chenault Brown and husband Charles Steven Brown of Huntsville; Anna Lane Chenault Sexton and husband Jeffrey Dale Sexton of Huntsville; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Bunch of Decatur, Alabama and Faye Corum and Husband Clifford Corum of New Hope, Alabama.

 

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Thursday March 16, 2017 at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, Alabama with Pastor Michael Lightfoot officiating.

 

Visitation will be 11AM to 1PM Thursday March 16, 2017 at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, Alabama.

 

Burial will be at the Center Springs Methodist Church Cemetery
