Beverly Risher McCulloch

Beverly Risher McCulloch, 94, died peacefully December 22, 2022, at Regency Retirement Village in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born July 10, 1928, in Selma, Alabama. She spent her childhood on a cotton and cattle farm in Tyler, Alabama. Beverly attended Auburn University where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. At Auburn she met Forrest Dyke McCulloch, the love of her life. They married in 1950 and moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. A few years later they moved to Dyke’s hometown Huntsville where Dyke was employed as an engineer at the Army Strategic Defense Command until his retirement in 1980.

Beverly worked part time tutoring hearing impaired children and at risk youth with Huntsville’s school system. She enjoyed gardening and her yard was featured on the Huntsville Botanical Garden Tour. Beverly was a long standing member of the Huntsville Grace Club. She was known for her desserts and iced tea. She was intimately involved in the first edition of the Huntsville Heritage Cookbook. She and Dyke traveled the world for a number of years with a group of friends that called themselves The Rounders. Beverly was loved for her “spunk” and sense of humor.

Survivors include son, James R. McCulloch, of Huntsville; daughters, Kim Willett (Robert E.), of Mobile, and Anna Dinwiddie (Russel), of Huntsville; grandchildren, Adam Hess, Rachel H. Hajek (Jeff), Abigail H. Tredal (Felix), Meagan D. Tortorigi (Frank), Forrest Dinwiddie (Allison), Rebecca W. Pruente (Brad), Caroline W. Wilson (Drew), and Robert M. Willett; and 12 great grandchildren. Beverly had many nieces and nephews that were very special to her.

She was preceded in death by Forrest Dyke McCulloch, her husband of 64 years; daughter, Caroline Hess (Jim); her parents, James Oliver Risher, Sr. and Louise Douglass Beers; siblings, James Risher (Leonora), Virginia Rambo (Louis George), and Ben Risher (Beverly).

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Ms. Patricia Jolly her loving

caregiver of 12 years.

No services are planned.
