Beverly Greenwood Dezenberg, age 53, died peacefully in her sleep on October 10. She is survived by her husband, Gary; her mother, Alma Barnes Kiss,;stepmother, Jean Wrubel Greenwood; stepbrother, John Wrubel; stepbrother, Charles Kiss, Jr.; and an aunt and uncle, Phyllis and Bill Schrader. She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Flack Greenwood.
Beverly was a graduate of Grissom High School, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and New York University. She received a master’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).
Her career experience included work as a research assistant at Morgan Stanley &. Co, New York, and as the human resources training coordinator at Lehman Brothers, Inc., New York. She was working at Lehman on 9/11 and ran from the dust cloud on the street with hundreds of others. Lehman’s offices were destroyed and for a year afterward she worked from her apartment via fax and modem, gratified to be one of the New Yorkers who kept the city going after the attack.
Returning to Huntsville, for two years she was student affairs assistant at UAH. Later she volunteered for several animal welfare groups and for the 8th Street Community. In 2006 she married Gary. They had known each other since high school.
Visitation will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14. A memorial service will follow immediately after.
