Beuna Swallows – Obituary

Beuna Swallows, age 99, of Florence, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 2, 2014. 

Her family will receive guests from 6-8 p.m. today at Spry-Williams Funeral Home in Florence. The funeral service will be at Central Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 6, with Dr. Tom Whatley, Brother Jim Warren, Brother Bill Harper, and Brother Steve Sellers officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens of Florence.

Mrs. Swallows was a native of Mt. Hope, Alabama and a member of Central Baptist Church in Florence where she taught four-year-olds in Sunday school for over 50 years. She also was a Girls-in-Action leader, Cradle Roll director, and sang in the adult choir.

Mrs. Swallows graduated from Florence State Teachers College (now UNA) in 1934 and taught first grade for two years at C.C. Smith School in Lawrence County. 

In addition to her parents, Lonie and Humphrey Smith, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Glyn Swallows. 

She is survived by her brother, Tharol Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and her church family at Central Baptist. 

Pallbearers will be Johnny Benton, Wendell Briggs, Sandy Gooch, Jimmy James, Charles Rickard, and David Wells.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church.
