Bettye Tuck Burns – Obituary

Bettye Tuck Burns was born in Harvest, AL on Dec. 3, 1928 and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early hours of June 10, 2017. She was the daughter of L. L. and Lillie B. Tuck Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, V. T. Burns, Jr., and brother, Louis Tuck Jr. She was raised in Harvest and moved to Decatur where she attended junior high school and Decatur High School, at that time commonly known as Riverside, where she was a majorette in the Marching Band. She was active in Girl Scouts and GAs, and was active as Band Mother and Band Booster at Mountain Brook High School 1973-74. A devout Christian, Mrs. Burns was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church for 47 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and member of the choir. She also taught her mother’s Sunday School Class at Harvest Baptist Church for many years. She was truly a woman of faith, instilling those beliefs in her family. Her other interests included The Garden Clubs of Alabama where she was a Master Judge. She was a certified teacher of Ceramics.
She is survived by a son, Tom Burns III (Diane); daughter, Betsy Burns Fitts; granddaughters, Jennifer Tully (Eric) and Stephanie Fitts; great granddaughters, Sierrah Grace Tully and Lydia Faith Fitts; and many nephews, nieces, other family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Dr. Doug Dortch officiating.  Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Robert Fitts of Big Cove, Walt Ashley of Birmingham, Clay Johnston of Pelham, Mark Burns and Mike Burns of Huntsville, and Wilson Herndon of Chelsea.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Mountain Brook Baptist Church Music Ministry, The Garden Clubs of Alabama, MS, Diabetes, or your favorite charity. The family would like to thank the many, many family, friends and caregivers, especially her Hospice nurse and staff.
