Bettye Thomas Jolley
1937 – 2015

A lifelong resident of Albertville, Josie Elizabeth , better known as Bettye Jolley died

on Thursday April 23, 2015 following an extended illness. She was 77.

The Daughter of John Aubrey Sr. and Johnnie Phillips Thomas, she was born on April 30, 1937 in Albertville. She graduated from Albertville High School in 1955 and received her degree in pharmacy from Howard College, now Samford University.

Upon graduating from pharmacy school, she joined her father and brother in the family drug store, P&J Pharmacy, until 1997, remaining active in Albertville merchant activities throughout her career, including being named Distinguished Young Women of the Year in 1972.

She was a founding member of the Marshall County Arc, which remained close to her heart throughout her life. She was on the board of Directors of Albertville Library, a member of the State Board of Pharmacy and a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Albertville where she was active in the Women of the Church Committee.

An enthusiastic sports fan, she was a supporter of Auburn University and its sports programs for many years. She enjoyed time spent with her many close friends and most importantly, her beloved grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Husband of 51 years, Horace Gene Jolley, son David Jolley, father John Aubrey Thomas Sr., mother Johnnie Phillips Thomas and brother John Aubrey Thomas Jr. (Peggy). She is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Jill Jolley Gore (Gary) of Guntersville and Anna Jolley Allen (Dan) of Auburn; four grandchildren, Spencer and Thomas Gore and Sam and Jill Allen and a sister Tina Thomas Cotton of Albertville.

A Memorial service will be held Sunday April 26 at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Albertville with visitation to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Marshall County Arc, 5104 Porter Harvey Drive Guntersville, AL 35976. Albertville Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
