Bettye June “BJ” Pendergrast, age 91, of Tuscumbia, went to be with her heavenly father on January 6th, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Katie Weatherby and Frank Davis; husband, Harvey Pendergrast; infant son Andy Holland; sons, Dean and Harold Pendergrast; brothers, Tommy and Bobby Davis; sister, Mary Archer; stepbrother, William Hovater; stepsisters, Lois and Janet Hovater, granddaughters; Kristy Parker and Charity Stephens and grandson; Thomas Pendergrast.
Bettye leaves behind her children, Kayleen, Sheila (Fudd), Mike Pendergrast, Patti Miles; sister, Janice Davis (Jack), stepsister, Gail Weldon, daughter-in-law, Melissa Pendergrast, 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish her memory.
Bettye is a 1951 graduate of Deshler High School. After raising her family, she attended Calhoun Community College, Athens State, and UNA where she finished her nursing degree. She retired from Shoals Hospital after a total of 40 years as a registered nurse.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Rusty and Michael Phillips, David Holland, Michael and Kyle Pendergrast and Cody Stephens.
A special thanks to Enhabit Home Health & Hospice. The family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating Bettye’s life at her visitation, to be held on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be Thursday, January 11th, 2024 at 2:00 pm at The Family Worship Center, 194 Willingham Hill Road, Tuscumbia with Bro. Jerry Hester officiating followed with burial at Guy Cemetery.
