Bettye Jo Benson, 88 of Mt. Olive, passed away peacefully on Monday January 19, 2026.
She was retired from Alabama Power Company. She was born March 11, 1937, to Martha Ellen and George Austin Rivers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lucious Lamar Benson, Sr.; sister, Mary George Hill; son, Steven Lamar Benson and daughter, Vicki Ellen Gregory.
She is survived by two daughters, Tammy Abston (Dana) of Hoover and Renee Kaldahl (Dave) of Vestavia Hills, and son, Lamar Benson-Longobardi (Anthony) of Crestwood; sister, Sue Cooper (Clayton) of Warrior, and brother-in-law, James Hill of Largo, FL She had nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, along with several nieces and one nephew.
Pallbearers are grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Jason Gregory, David Abston, Ryan Winnett, Davy Brackett, Brad Lovell and Jamey Gaylor.
Funeral services will be Friday January 23, 26 at 11:00 am in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Rev. Jacob Elliott will officiate. Burial will follow in McCormack Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time.
