Bettye Jean Evans West, 70, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at her home. She was born May 19, 1943, in Louisiana to John Lewis and Lucelle Ballard Evans. She was a faithful, life-long member of Evergreen United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer. She worked for many years in the family business, T. F. Evans Lumber Co., and later worked as a receptionist at JESCO in Fulton until her retirement. She was an avid reader and loved playing the piano. She enjoyed her family, friends, and cats.
Services will be at 10 a. m. Friday, March 14, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Doug Westmoreland officiating. Burial will follow in the New Chapel Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond T. “Randy” West III (Kathy) of Evergreen, David Evans West (Marcie) of Kalama, Wash., and John Patrick “Pat” West of Evergreen; one sister, Mary Ann Elmore of Saltillo; eight grandchildren, John Patrick Ballard, Betsy Ballard, Katie West Oswalt (Jon Ryan), Cliff West, Tucker West, Marguerite West, David McMillen, and Tyler Powell; two great-grandchildren, Max and Garrett; a special cousin, Ann Ballard of Ballardsville; one nephew, Luke Mosley (Shennia); and two great-nephews, Colton and Corbin Mosley, all of Evergreen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond T. “Mickey” West, Jr., on July 2, 1995; and her parents.
Pallbearers will be Milton Schumpert, Tony McDaniel, Bill Shumpert, Bob Shumpert, Chris Gillentine, Kelly Martin, Roger Beachum, and Steven Staub.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Dabbs, Herman Hussey, Dale Martin, Jim Johnson, Wayne Thorn, Willie D. Shumpert, and Will X. “Spunk” Shumpert.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Thursday, March 13, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society or the New Chapel Cemetery fund.
