Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Betty Wiles Lucas Ikard, age 90, of the Alto Community. Mrs. Ikard passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021. She was born on September 25, 1930, in Bruceton, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents William Orville and Lena Rivers Wiles Lucas and her stepfather Henry Porter Bayless; husband of 69 years, Lannie Looney Ikard; sister Evelyn Evans Lucas; brothers William Orville Lucas and Franklin Porter Bayless. She is survived by a sister Mary Priestly Deverall, and a brother Henry Winston Bayless; her daughters Rena Margaret Ikard (Danny) O’Connor of Knoxville, TN; Laura Lannette Ikard (Randy) Dunnavant of Nolensville, TN, and son, William Lanson Ikard (Shirley) of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren Elizabeth Ann Sunderland, Laura Margaret (Jim) Newman, Jessica Guinn Dunnavant, and Jennifer Ray (Anthony) Reda; great-grandchildren Joshua Sean (Erica) Wallace and 2nd LT. Kaitlin Ray Wallace; William Lathon and Hailee Alexis Sunderland; Sadie Grace, Austin James, and Ella Katherine Newman; and Oliver Anthony, Adeline Mae, Eleanor Annabelle, and Augustus Elliot Reda; great-great-grandchildren, Annistyn Kate and Jaxton Bryce Wallace, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Those who had the honor of knowing Mrs. Ikard will remember her for her grace, poise and her love of traveling. Mrs. Ikard had a 30-year career with the US Postal Service, serving as a Postmaster for many years until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Franklin County Historical Society, and worked many hours with “The DIG “ project. She was a faithful contributor to the preservation of old court records for Franklin County. She was a supporter of the Sewanee Summer Music Center and the University of the South. She was a member of the Alto United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she was the treasurer for many years.
The family will receive friends during visitation on Sunday July 11, 2021, at 1:00 PM with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM at Watson-North Funeral Home. Interment will be at Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd, TN. Pallbearers are Joshua Wallace, Lathon Sunderland, Austin Newman, Anthony Reda, Jody Miller and Edward Kilgour. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Alto UMC C/O Shirley Winter 284 Rutledge Ford Road Decherd, TN. 37324. A reception will be held at the Alto Methodist Church immediately following the service.
