The funeral service for Betty P. Harris, age 83 of Lineville, will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. Jodie Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Harris passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Clay County Hospital. She was a native of Clay County and a homemaker. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Oak Grove Extension Club and did volunteer work at the Lineville Nursing Home for several years. Some of her greatest joys included making doggie bed quilts which she donated to many veterinarians offices in Alabama, Virginia and West Virginia as well as making many craft items in plastic canvas for friends and relatives. Betty saw her life’s work as a wife and supporter of her husband’s ministry and as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family was always foremost in her life. Ever the teacher, she taught friends and family alike to live with joy and enthusiasm and now she has taught us how to die with dignity and grace. Betty was a wonderful friend and inspiration to so very many. Her passing has left a vacancy in our lives that will never be filled.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane M. Nelson and her husband Harry of Cross Junction, VA; one son, James R. Harris and his wife Teresa of Lineville; three granddaughters: Holly M. McNeal and her husband Herman Jr. of Anniston, Hayley M. Harris of Lineville and Shaina Boles of Prattville; one grandson, Bradley Sanders of Prattville; three great-grandchildren: Amberly H. McNeal, Harrison “Asher” McNeal and Abigaila H. McNeal, all of Anniston and her beloved “baby” Peanut.
She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Beulah Carroll Parker; her husband, Rev. Robert J. Harris; one son, James Leslie Harris; two sisters: Mildred “Polly” Houston and Ann Kennedy and one brother, James Lucius “Boot” Parker.
Pallbearers will be Roger Harris, Mack Bowman, Harry Nelson and Herman McNeal Jr.
