Betty McDonald Eckles – Obituary

Betty McDonald Eckles, age 80, of Sheffield, died Thursday, February 27, 2014. Visitation will be Saturday, March 1, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The graveside funeral service will be Sunday, at 2:00 p.m., at Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Eckles was a lifelong resident of Sheffield, and a member of the Church of Christ. She was a cub scout leader, and also volunteered at the Village School in Sheffield. Ceramics was her passion for many years, as Betty and Bobby would travel to many craft shows. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alma McDonald; husband, Bobby Eckles; sister, Nelda Coons; and former daughter-in-law, Kay Eckles.

Survivors include son, Clay Eckles (Melody); daughter, Dixie Eckles; grandchildren, Carrie Eckles, Anna Eckles Thigpen, and Ellie Eckles; brothers, G.R. McDonald (Genell) and Harold McDonald (Millie); sister, Carolyn Abston (Dan); and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jerry McDonald, Donald Ray Coons, Mac Abston, Hal McDonald, Chris Coons, and Kenny Galloway.

The family acknowledges with gratitude the care and support of Dr. Jack McLendon, and the other physicians and staff at Helen Keller Hospital and UAB.
