Betty Louise (Sissy) Shumaker, 61, of East Ridge, TN, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at home surrounded by family. Sissy was born November 19, 1961, to the late James and Frances Shumaker. She was the youngest of four and the apple of her Daddy’s eye. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Huey Shumaker, J.C. Shumaker, Mike Hill, and sister-in-law Olga Hill. She is survived by her beloved uncle William (Bill) Hughes, aunts Peggy Hays and Ann Webster, nephews Michael Hill and Eric Hill, sister-in-law Cindy Shumaker, cousins Rhonda Wood and Meredith Benincasa, 1 great nephew and 3 great nieces. Sissy also leaves behind her Hair Benders International family, countless friends and her faithful dog Piper.
Sissy was a graduate of East Ridge High School and cosmetology school. She spent the entirety of her 36-year with Hair Benders International. Her clients and fellow stylists were considered family. Active in her community, Sissy volunteered countless hours with the East Ridge Needy Child Fund. She was always up for a good laugh, a home-grown tomato and spending time with those she loved. She enjoyed scrapbooking and sewing. During the pandemic she sewed and donated more than 1,000 face masks to essential workers and the elderly. Her love of animals was lifelong and her dog Piper was a constant companion.
Sissy had moved to the Rock Island TN community to be with family a little more than a year ago, but she will always be an East Ridge girl. A celebration of life will be at a later date.
