Mrs. Betty Lou Elway, age 69, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, in Nashville. She was born April 17, 1956 in Chester County to the late Wilma Troy Swafford and Opal Lee Jordan Swafford. She was a retired employee of Lexington Apparel and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Mrs. Betty loved sewing, yard sales, cooking and running around with her posse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. David Lewis Elway, Sr.; her sister, Dorothy “Dot” Bolaus; two brothers, Billy Swafford and Frankie Swafford; and one great grandchild, Atticus Elway.
Survivors include her four sons, David Elway (Dedra), Jeremy Elway, Matthew Elway (Ashley), and John Elway (Elizabeth); four brothers, Glen Swafford (Linda), Howard “Frog” Swafford (Faye), Freddie Swafford (Pam), and Jerry Swafford (Betty); sister-in-law, Gail Swafford; 16 grandchildren, Kaylee Elway (Travis Lance), Davn Kolb, Emma Elway (Michael Elleston), Joe Elway, Haylee Elway, Meadow Oliver (Ty), Makayla Elway, Jayden Elway (Colt Eskew), Bradly Elway, Jacob Elway, McKinna Elway, Macie Elway, Abagail Elway, Nolan Elway, Alexis Henley, and Madison Qualls (Eugene Harris); and nine great grandchildren, Noah Box, Carson Elway, Lillian Lance, Sebastion Elleston, Lexi Lach, Isabel Brown, Zoey Lance, Skai Harris, and Zuri Harris.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM, Friday, September 19, 2025, in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington. Interment will follow in Roby Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, 1 – 9 PM and on Friday 10 AM – 2 PM.
