Betty JoAnn Griffin SandefurBetty JoAnn Griffin Sandefur, 80, retired employee of J. C. Penney, died Friday, October 19, 2018 at her residence on Maple Court.

A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Andrew Phillips officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born September 29, 1938 in Greenville, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Claude Griffin and the late Mary Worrell Griffin. Mrs. Sandefur was a graduate of Hume Fogg Technical High School in Nashville. She retired after thirty-two years employment with J. C. Penney. She was a member of Graymere Church of Christ where she was active with the visitation program and worked in the nursery.

Survivors include her husband of thirty-four years, Edison H. Sandefur of Columbia; sons, Robin McDonald of Columbia; Jimmie Corrigan of Tullahoma; daughters, Susan Lane Corrigan of Portland, Oregon, Wanda Jane Corrigan of Sparta; step-daughters, Susan Sandefur of California; Pamela (Lewis) Phelps of Lewisburg; brother, John Griffin of Memphis; sister, Claudia Layhew of Madison; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step-son, Mark Sandefur.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Stevens, Jerry Kirk, Robin McDonald, Lewis Phelps, James Reedy, and Larry Winchester.
