Betty Jo Newman Johnston, 66, of Southaven, MS, passed away on September 12, 2021, where she spent her final days surrounded by her loving family.  A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00pm Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road East, Southaven, MS 38672).  Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is in charge of arrangements in Southaven, MS.

 

Graveside services will take place at Mapleview Cemetery (411 Maple St, Smyrna, TN 37167) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021.  A visitation will be held immediately before the graveside from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., also on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna (203 N Lowry St, Smyrna, TN 37167).  Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna is in charge of arrangements in Smyrna, TN.

 

Betty was born in Memphis, TN, to Elzie and Dorothy Newman on October 14, 1954. She grew to be a compassionate, spiritual child of Christ.   Mrs. Johnston loved to make the world a brighter place through her gardening and passion for nursing.  She earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and was very dedicated to her profession and helping others.

 

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband, of 29 years, David Johnston; her parents, Elzie and Dorothy Newman; her brother, Paul Newman; and her sister, Pamela Montgomery.

 

Mrs. Johnston leaves behind her two daughters, Leslie (Christopher) Pond of Southaven and Kimberly (Paul) Buford of Senatobia, MS; her four granddaughters, Cynthia (Trey) Coffman of Bellevue, NE, Ashlee Hartz and Gracie Buford both of Senatobia and Kaitlyn (Marcus) Suiter of Marion, AR; her three grandsons, Adrian Pond of Southaven, Joseph Parker and Dalton Buford both of Senatobia; her great-granddaughter Oakley Suiter of Marian and Her great-grandson, Levi Coffman of Bellevue, NE.

 

The family asks that memorial contributions in Mrs. Betty Johnston’s name may be made to Buddy at the Tunica Humane Society (PO Box 236, Tunica, MS 38676) in lieu of flowers.
