Betty Jo Loague, 92, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on September 12, 1933, in Hackleburg, Alabama, Betty Jo lived a life defined by faith, hard work, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. She made her home in Hamilton, where she was a faithful member of Hamilton Church of Christ for more than 60 years.
Betty Jo retired after a long career with Tollgate, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, she embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. She loved square dancing and, along with her husband, James, appeared on a local television program showcasing their passion for dancing. She also enjoyed bowling for many years, forming lasting friendships and creating countless cherished memories.
More than anything, Betty Jo treasured her family. She delighted in watching it grow across four generations, and her love, guidance, and quiet strength will continue to be reflected in the lives of those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Shotts Blanke; her grandchildren, Wayne Young (Bethany) and Christie Holland (Joe); her great-grandchildren, Joey Holland (Phoebe Hall), Kelsey Barber (Brandon), and Ryan Young; her great-great-grandchildren, Madelyn Barber and Caleb Barber; her sister, Becky Nix; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Betty Jo was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Shotts Campbell; her husband of 58 years, James Loague; her husband, Leon Shotts; her parents, Oliver and Ollie Wiley; her sisters, Mae Roberts, Deloris (“Dodie”) Mayfield, Ruby Lee Archer, and Marie Holloway; and her brothers, Clyde Wiley, John Wiley, Charles Wiley, and Jimmy Wiley.
Betty Jo’s life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and unconditional love. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and steadfast devotion to her family and church will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved so dearly.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 21 from 11am -1pm with service at 1pm at the Hamilton Church of Christ with Bro. Todd Clippard officiating. Burial to follow in the Shottsville Cemetery
