Betty Jean Smith – Obituary

Betty Jean Smith, 64, of Decatur, Alabama, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born in Decatur, Alabama on July 30, 1952, to the late James Evans and Edna Evans.

She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and a retired RN from North Alabama Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jimmy Fletcher; and sister, Faye Shackleford.

She is survived by her husband, Alton Smith; and five children, one step-son, Mark Evans, Sabrina Evans, Mario Evans, Ceric Evans (Tonya), Erica Powell (Orlando), and Miquez Smith; also 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Mary Durr, of Decatur, Alabama, Wilma Emerson, of Huntsville, Alabama, Nancy Stover, Kaye Fletcher, James Baker (Rachel), all of Decatur, Alabama, June Buford, of Houston, Texas, Shirley Mayes, of Courtland, Alabama, and Vicky Love (Allen), of Atlanta, Georgia.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Friday, Feb.3, 2017, at 1 p.m. at True Apostolic Community Church, 524 11th Avenue, NW, Decatur, AL 35601, with John A Birdsong, officiating pastor.
