Betty Jean Phillips, 91, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born in Athens, Alabama, on May 24th, 1933, to Henry and Madeline (Balch) Menefee.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her brother, Stanley Menefee; nephews, Butch Menefee, Stan Menefee (Shaviny), and Dustin Menefee (Andrea); great-nieces Juliana Menefee, Madelyn Menefee, and Molly Menefee; great-nephews, Russ Menefee, Blythe Menefee, and Aiden Menefee; and sister-in-law Jill Menefee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Madeline Menefee; husband, George Phillips; sister-in-law, Wanda Menefee; sister, Juanita Ruf; brother-in-law, Robert Ruf; and brother, Pettus Menefee.
The funeral service will be at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, Monday, March 31st, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Dustin Menefee, Cory Fields, Stan Menefee, Butch Menefee, Blythe Menefee, and Aiden Menefee. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Higginbotham, Chase Higginbotham, and Ryan Higginbotham.
Mrs. Phillips loved playing golf, cooking, and travelling. She was a very special person who loved her friends and family, and her smile was contagious. She was a member of Westmeade Baptist Church in Decatur.
