Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty Jean Lanthrip, age 85 of Ashland, will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Christian Church with Rev. Mike Hanners and Rev. Wade Price officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Lanthrip passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at her home. Mrs. Lanthrip was born in Sylacauga, and grew up in the Sycamore community. After she got married, she worked for 35 years at the Avondale Cotton Mills in Sycamore. Following her families move to Clay County, she worked at Southland Mills in the packing department, and then worked for Wellborn Cabinets in the Sanding and Painting departments until she retired. Mrs. Lanthrip enjoyed the outdoors, either going for a walk in the country, or tending to her flowers with her husband. She enjoyed cooking and baking cakes for her family and friends, loved spending quality time with her family, and helping with babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served as the secretary and treasurer, choir singer, and member of Bethel Christian Church for many years. When raising her children, she was loving, but firm. She was straight forward and said what she meant, but had a genuine love for her family, and the Lord.
She is survived by Two daughters: Shelby Jean Osbourn (Wayne) and Elizabeth Ann Blankenship (Richie), both of Ashland; one son, Timothy Marvin Lanthrip (Tina) of Alexander City; 7 grandchildren: Sunshine Cragier (Casey), Dustin Osbourn (Kayla), Chris Lanthrip, Cody Lanthrip (Christina), Jackie Cooper, Kerri Burks (Connor), and Joseph Blankenship (Madalyn); 10 great-grandchildren: Allie, Lydia, Shelby Grace, Ashton, Karalyne, Jaden, Taylor, Emily, Tori, and one on the way, Evelyn; one great-great-grandson, Hudson; plus a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Leon Lanthrip; one grandson, Zachary Osbourn; one great-grandson, Israel; her parents: Frances Valentine and Lou Synda Collier Patterson; her grandparents: Shelly and Nancy Carolyn Collier, and Julieus and Mary Patterson; five sisters: Myrtle Machen, Margie Wynn, Frances Dobbs, Ann Epperson, and Rita Martin; and four brothers: Robert (Bob), Albert M., Horace, and Willie Carl Patterson.
Active pallbearers will be Matt Nicholson, Casey Cragier, Jaden Adair, Scott Tucker, Rickey Patterson, and Roy Mathis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Taylor, Duane Denney, Steve Gordon, Randy Cummings, and Thomas Anderson.
Her visitation will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland beginning at 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. She will lie in state at Bethel Christian Church on Monday, April 27 from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
