Obituary of Betty Jean Hudson Funeral services for Betty Jean Hudson, age 88 of Malesus, will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel with Bro. Mark Cagle officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Hudson passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday afternoon, August 11, 2023, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

 

She was born in Madison County, Tenn., to the late Lessie and Everett Murchison.

 

She graduated from Malesus High School and attended nursing school at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis. She was a longtime surgical nurse and then taught operating room technicians. She then became a certified high school teacher and taught health occupations classes in the local school system. She was a longtime member of Malesus Baptist Church, where she served in a variety of areas.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Billy Wayne Murchison and Jerry Murchison.

 

Mrs. Hudson is survived by Joseph Allen Hudson, Sr., her husband of 60 years; sons COL (Ret.) Brian K. Mays (Dee) of Ashburn, Va., and Joseph Allen Hudson, Jr. (Angie) of Jackson, Tenn; daughters Karen Gaskins (Wain) of Bartlett, Tenn., and Connie Sipes (Billy) of Jackson, Tenn.; sisters Linda Revelle of Bells, Tenn., and Benita Scheele (Mike) of Jackson, Tenn.; grandchildren Chris Sipes, Becca Zehner, Patrick Mays, Brad Gaskins, Drew Gaskins, Joseph Gaskins, and Isaac Gaskins; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

 

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon with the service immediately following.
